School Reopening Plans

Arkansas

Arkansas has released the latest resource in the Arkansas Ready for Learning initiative to support school districts’ preparation for the 2020-21 school year. The Response Levels for On-site Learning document will guide districts in determining and mitigating health risks associated with COVID-19 occurrences connected to on-site instruction and school activities.

California

Guidance was created through the statewide reopening schools task force that fostered a collaborative process for our educators and stakeholders to lend their important voices.

Connecticut

Adapt, Advance, Achieve: Connecticut’s Plan to Learn and Grow Together

Illinois

Illinois is currently working on re-opening guidance but has released Part 1 which covers ending the 2019-20 school year and Summer School 2020.

Indiana’s Considerations for Learning and Safe Schools (IN-CLASS)

Iowa

Iowa has released a variety of guidance documents relating to Covid-19 and will continue to post more as planning progresses.

Maryland

The Maryland Together: Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education will address processes and procedures that should be considered immediately but also be utilized as a road map for future instances of school closures.

Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Education has been issuing guidance for school districts related to School Reopening. See https://education.mn.gov/MDE/dse/health/covid19/. They are working closely with the MN Dept of Health.

Mississippi

The Mississippi Department of Education has partnered with a workgroup of nine superintendents from a diverse range of school districts to outline the key issues districts need to address for the eventual reopening of schools.

Nebraska

Launch Nebraska: Tools, actions, opportunities and resources to support the complex planning needed by Nebraska school systems as they work to restart schools and support students as they transition back to school buildings. This site and its resources are still a work in progress but this is where everything will be going as we build it out.

New Hampshire

The School Transition Reopening and Redesign Task Force (STRRT) was constituted to provide recommendations to the Governor, the New Hampshire Department of Education, and local school districts relative to the return to school in September. Their discussions, work and recommendations informed much of the guidance that is contained in this document. A safe return to school in September 2020 is the primary goal, with accommodations for individuals, students and educators, who due to underlying health concerns are not able to return to in person learning. This guidance is dynamic and as circumstances and data change, it may require updating.

New Jersey

This Restart and Recovery Plan provides educators and administrators with the information necessary to ensure that our schools reopen safely and are prepared to accommodate students’ unique needs during this unprecedented time.

New Mexico

Task force of legislators, parents, advocacy groups, and the state educational agency, 30 members total, have started planning on what school will look like in the fall.

North Carolina

The State Board of Education (SBE) and NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), in consultation with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), have developed Lighting Our Way Forward: North Carolina’s Guidebook for Reopening Public Schools in response to the COVID-19 public health crisis. The purpose of this guidance document is to support NC public schools and communities in developing their plans and strategies for reopening schools in the 2020-21 school year.

Utah

The social and economic effects of COVID-19 will be significant and touch every corner of our state.
But there is much that can be done to mitigate impacts to students and families and create educational success for the long term. The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) envisions three phases on the path to recovery and our new future.

Utah State Board of Education:
THREE PHASES TO RECOVERY
Phase 1: ADDRESS THE ESSENTIAL 5 – THE NEW NOW

Phase 2: BRIDGE LEARNING GAPS – THE NEAR FUTURE
Phase 3: RETURN AND RECOVER – THE NEW FUTURE
