SETDA Voices Strong Opposition to House Appropriations
Committee’s Decision to Cut ESEA Title II-A Funding

July 12 2024 (Washington, DC)SETDA expresses profound concern over the House Appropriations Committee’s ill conceived decision to eliminate funding for ESEA Title II-A, the Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants program. This federal education program is crucial for providing professional development to teachers and school leaders, particularly in areas of technology integration and student privacy protection.

The U.S. Department of Education’s 2024 National Educational Technology Plan calls for the closing of the digital design divide and building educators’ capacities to design learning experiences enabled by technology. The elimination of this funding will significantly impair our educators’ ability to keep pace with rapidly evolving educational technologies and best practices for safeguarding student data. In an increasingly digital learning environment, it is more important than ever that our teachers and administrators receive ongoing, high-quality professional learning and coaching in these areas.
