SETDA Announces 2020-2021 Board Members and Officers

 

Washington, D.C. – The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), has announced its Board of Directors and Officers for 2020-2021. SETDA is the principal association representing U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders.

They include:

• Eric Hileman, Oklahoma City Public Schools (Chair, Emeritus Member)
• Doug Casey, Connecticut State Commission for Educational Technology (Chair-Elect)
• Janice Mertes, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Treasurer)
• Ann-Marie Mapes, Michigan Department of Education (Secretary)
• Laurel Ballard, Wyoming Department of Education (Past Chair)
• Val Emrich, Maryland Department of Education
• Melinda Fiscus, Illinois State Board of Education 
• Stan Freeda, New Hampshire Department of Education
• Rick Gaisford, Utah State Board of Education
• Todd Lawrence, Idaho State Department of Education

For 2020-21, Eric Hileman moves from the Chair-Elect position to the Chair and will be joined by Doug Casey as Chair-Elect and Laurel Ballard as Past Chair. Reelected for a second term, Ann-Marie Mapes will remain in her role as Secretary. Janice Mertes, rejoining the board for a second term, will move into the officer position of Treasurer. Newly elected member, Stan Freeda joins other at-large Board members Val Emrich, Mindy Ficus, Rick Gaisford, and Todd Lawrence.  

“As we enter a ‘new normal’ for the foreseeable future, SETDA will continue to provide its influential leadership and advocacy to see that K-12 systems are empowered to ensure that all students, regardless of zip code, have access to high-quality technology-mediated instruction and all faculty have access to highly effective and relevant professional development,” said Eric Hileman. “As Board Chair, I look forward to promoting these endeavors to ensure success especially during these unprecedented times.”

“Our SETDA Board of Directors are a dedicated group of state members who collaborate to provide their fellow state leaders and affiliate partners with the tools, skills, and connections to  advocate, research, and disseminate innovative opportunities to transform teaching and learning through technology,” noted Candice Dodson, SETDA Executive Director. 

“In this evolving time of teaching and learning, our organization remains focused but nimble as we support our members around equity and access to a quality education for all learners. The Board firmly believes in the value of demonstrating collaborative leadership, including work with states, affiliates, private sector partners, and other national organizations, to address critical issues in a productive way,” she said.

The SETDA Board of Directors was elected in alignment with the SETDA Emerging Technologies Leadership Forum conducted virtually this year in mid-June. As part of this event, SETDA provided the opportunity for state members to collaborate with private sector partners and affiliates.
