Honored as SETDA’s 2012 State Leader of the Year

October 22, 2012 (Washington, D.C.) – Dr. Wayne Hartschuh, Executive Director of the Delaware Center of Educational Technology, was honored with the State Leader of the Year (SLY) award by the membership of the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) at the 2012 Leadership Summit, “Advancing Education in the Digital Age.” The SLY award goes to an active SETDA member who has exhibited exemplary national leadership in educational technology by supporting districts in his or her state to use technology effectively to improve student learning, collaborating with peers nationally through SETDA initiatives and committees, and engaging with the broader education and policymaking communities to advocate for the role of technology in advancing education.

“Wayne has been an active and valued member of the SETDA Board, and served effectively as SETDA Board Chair and Treasurer,” noted Lan Neugent, Assistant Superintendent for Technology, Career and Adult Education and Chief Information Officer at the Virginia Department of Education in his nominating letter. “He is someone who epitomizes the best in advocacy, leadership and teamwork.”

“In addition to his incredible work in Delaware, Wayne has demonstrated leadership on the national stage,” said Jeff Mao of the Maine Department of Education and Chair of the SETDA Board of Directors. “He has testified in Congress on the importance of technology for education reform and school improvement, worked with regional agencies and organizations, and has generously offered wisdom and guidance to numerous innovative efforts over the years. He is the epitome of a true leader, focused first and foremost on the success of all students.”
