SETDA COMMENDS THE BIPARTISAN PASSAGE OF
THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND JOBS ACT

November 15, 2021 (Washington, D.C.) – The passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act by the U.S. House of Representatives is a once-in-a-generation investment in the future of America’s schools and our children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many children were left unconnected and under-connected without the connectivity required to attend remote online learning. This landmark investment in our educational system will bring, among other things, nearly $65 billion to help close the digital divide.

Julia Fallon, Executive Director of SETDA, noted, “SETDA has long set the standard for adequate school broadband access and advocated for quality broadband connections for all students. And we’ve long noted that access to affordable internet isn’t just a digital rights issue—it’s a civil rights issue. People without broadband access are disproportionately Black, Latinx, Indigenous, rural, or low-income. Now that the Infrastructure and Jobs Act has been passed, we look forward to continuing this bipartisan conversation to ensure that all students can access technology-empowered learning.”
