Todd Lawrence moves from the Chair-Elect position to the Chair for 2017-18 and will be joined by Julia Fallon, in her second term on the SETDA Board, as Chair-Elect. Carla Wade, who was re-elected to another term on the Board, will serve as Secretary and Janice Mertes will serve as Treasurer. Outgoing Chair, Candice Dodson, will serve in an advisory capacity at Past Chair, but will not be a voting member of the Board. Newly elected members at-large are Laurel Ballard and Ann-Marie Mapes. Peter Drescher, Eric Hileman, and Shannon Parks will continue as at-large Board members.

“I am honored to have the privilege to serve as the SETDA board chairman for the next year. I follow in the path of many great leaders who have served in this role before me and will continue to strive to maintain focus of our mission as an organization,” stated Todd Lawrence, newly elected Board Chair.  “As state leaders, our purpose is to improve education through the effective implementation of technology. I look forward to the continued work in the coming year with this great organization that will make a difference in our education for all students.”

Executive Director, Tracy Weeks, noted, “The SETDA Board of Directors continues to provide excellent leadership for state level digital learning leaders in looking for innovative ways to transform teaching and learning through the use of technology. State leaders are focused on many issues such as: personalizing learning, ESSA state plans, digital instructional materials, equity of access to education, student data privacy, and interoperability. The Board believes firmly that when state leaders and affiliates partner with the private sector, we can work together to address these issues in a productive way.”

The SETDA Board was elected at its annual Emerging Technologies Forum & Annual Business Meeting June 23-26, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to its business meeting, SETDA provided the opportunity for state members to engage with private sector partners and the U.S. Department of Education.
