SETDA Announces Dr. Tracy Weeks as New Executive Director

Feb 1, 2016 (Washington, DC) – The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), the principal association representing U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders, announced today that Dr. Tracy Weeks has joined the organization to serve as Executive Director. In this role, Dr. Weeks will leverage her wealth of experience in K–12 digital learning leadership to lead the SETDA membership and the broader education community to push efficient and effective digital learning implementation through policies and practice to positively impact student learning.

“I am thrilled to join an organization that has been a long time leader in supporting the states in the implementation of education technology to transform teaching and learning,” said Dr. Weeks. “As a state leader, I know that it takes the partnership of policy makers, state and local leaders, businesses, and many organizations to effect change that is seen at the classroom level. I look forward to building relationships with our members and partners so that we can collectively work towards an exciting future for all students.”

Tracy has over 20 years of experience in education, including 15 years in the field of Education Technology. Her career has focused on integrating academics with digital learning in an effort to provide personalized learning for all students. Prior to joining SETDA, Dr. Weeks was the Chief Academic and Digital Learning Officer for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the first senior state leadership position of its kind in the nation. In this role, she served as the state agency lead on the development of the North Carolina Digital Learning Plan. From 2008 through 2014, Tracy served as the Chief Academic Officer and subsequently as the Executive Director for the North Carolina Virtual Public School, the second largest state-led virtual school in the nation.

“Tracy’s experience in leading innovative programs and her deep understanding of technology’s important role in improving student learning will be a great asset to SETDA and our members,” said Carla Wade, Digital Learning Specialist, Oregon Department of Education and SETDA Board Chair. “She is talented, energetic, action oriented and will surely build on the Association’s record of excellent, ground breaking work!”

SETDA is also pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has promoted long time staff member, Christine Fox, to Deputy Executive Director. Formerly Director of Educational Leadership and Research, Christine facilitated membership professional learning, membership communication, research and product development and press outreach and advocacy. In her new role, she will assist new Executive Director, Dr. Tracy Weeks, in charting strategic direction, administration, planning and financial decisions involving SETDA.

Weeks will begin her duties with SETDA on February 16, 2016.
