SETDA Announces 2015-2016 Board Members and Officers

July 8, 2015 (Washington, D.C.) – The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) today announced its Board of Directors and Officers for the 2015-16 year:

  • Carla Wade, Oregon Department of Education (Chair)
  • Candice Dodson, Indiana Department of Education (Chair-Elect)
  • David Walddon (Emeritus), Office of the Chief Information Officer, Washington (Treasurer)
  • Julia Fallon, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Washington (Secretary)
  • Laurence Cocco, New Jersey Department of Education
  • Peter Drescher, Vermont Agency of Education
  • Rick Gaisford, Utah State Office of Education
  • Todd Lawrence, Idaho State Department of Education
  • Shannon Parks, Alabama Department of Education

Carla Wade moves from her role as Chair-Elect to Chair for the 2015-16 year. Replacing her as Chair-Elect, in her second year on the SETDA Board is Candice Dodson. Julia Fallon will continue as Secretary and Emeritus member David Walddon was re-elected and will continue as Treasurer. Newly elected at-large members are Todd Lawrence and Shannon Parks. Out-going Chair, Peter Drescher was re-elected to a second term and Laurence Cocco and Rick Gaisford will continue as at-large board members.

This Board represents an exemplary mix of experience and new leadership. Longtime Oregon state leader, Carla Wade will assume the lead role as Chair with support from past Chair Peter Drescher and continuing members Laurence Cocco, Rick Gaisford, David Walddon, Julia Fallon and Chair-Elect Candice Dodson. New members Todd Laurence and Shannon Parks will leverage their committee experiences to best serve SETDA and its members.

“As SETDA continues to address state and national policy issues that impact student learning through the effective use of technology, strong Board leadership and direction setting are essential. ” stated Lan Neugent, SETDA Interim Executive Director. “The Board of Directors will be busy supervising continued implementation of SETDA’s 2013-16 strategic plan and have already forwarded numerous ideas as a start to the process of developing the next strategic plan. With a highly engaged Board, SETDA will have an exciting and fast paced year.”

The SETDA Board was elected at its annual Emerging Technologies Forum & Annual Business Meeting June 26-29 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to its business meeting, SETDA provided the opportunity for state members to engage with private sector partners and sessions with both the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Communications Commission.
