“Every Student Succeeds Act” Encourages Technology in Education as a Priority

December 9, 2015 (Washington D.C.) Today, the Senate approved the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) by a vote of 85-12. SETDA, the principal membership association of U.S. state and territorial digital learning leaders is encouraged by the actions by the House and Senate and anticipates that President Obama will sign the bill. SETDA supports the bill’s many provisions that focus on promoting technology use as a key component for improving academic achievement, academic growth, digital literacy of students and professional learning to increase the quality and effectiveness of teachers and school leaders.

The passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act signals to states and districts the importance of technology to improve education experiences in this digital age. While the legislation provides great flexibility for use of resources for many programs, it does prioritize use of technology to achieve educational goals throughout.

“SETDA is gratified that the House and Senate approved the Every Student Succeeds Act, “ stated Lan Neugent, Interim Executive Director, SETDA. “Our members are looking forward to providing their expertise as state and local education leaders work to include technology in their plans to increase academic achievement and ensure that every student does succeed.”
