SETDA Honors Doug Casey, Connecticut State Commission for Educational Technology,
with the 2022 State Leader of the Year Award
November 10, 2022 (Washington, DC) – SETDA, the principal membership association of U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders, announced Doug Casey as the 2022 recipient of the State Leader of the Year (SLY) award. This past week, Mr. Casey accepted the award during the 2022 Leadership Summit and Ed Forum held in Arlington, VA.
Doug Casey serves as the Executive Director of the Connecticut State Commission for Educational Technology (CET). In this role, he designs and manages strategic plans that help ensure the successful integration of technology in Connecticut’s schools, libraries, universities, and towns. CET has direct oversight of statewide programs, including the Connecticut Education Network, its digital library, and other initiatives.
Doug’s prior experience includes managing technology and security for a network of magnet schools that are helping to close the achievement gap between urban and suburban learners. He began his career as a middle school English teacher and brings a diversity of experience to every challenge — from managing online publications for the Smithsonian Institution to systems engineering for the U.S. House of Representatives and national security agencies. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary, and Master degrees from Georgetown University and George Washington University.
“This is a huge honor and a credit right back to SETDA as an organization that empowers its members to strive for excellence in serving school leaders, teachers, students, and families. I am thrilled to be part of a community of gifted leaders committed to the important work of designing and sharing digital learning solutions to advance educational opportunities for all students,” commented Casey, who also serves as the current SETDA Board Chair.
“SETDA’s tradition of recognizing edtech leaders who champion equity and access for all is a core value of who we are as an organization. In his work with both SETDA and Connecticut, Doug has repeatedly proven himself to be a great leader and colleague with qualities ranging from his ability to lead by inspiring collaboration and action to advancing digital learning and edtech at every opportunity,” noted Julia Fallon, Executive Director of SETDA. “On behalf of myself and the entire SETDA membership, it’s our honor to name Doug Casey as the 2022 State Leader of the Year.”
