SETDA Launches eLearning Coalition to Support Online Learning

March 16, 2020 (Washington, D.C.)

As school districts across the country face school closings, the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) is launching the SETDA Coalition for eLearning. The SETDA Coalition for eLearning focuses state leaders, affiliates, and partners in collective action around teaching and learning in the digital age. This eLearning Coalition, the new Essential Elements for eLearning public edWeb community of practice, and series of webinars are an ever-evolving compilation of rapidly developing resources around eLearning for state education agencies and school districts. The content published and developed in the coming weeks, is provided at no cost to users and is supported by SETDA’s partners and underwriters.

“In preparation for the likely disruption in learning from the COVID19 virus, it is essential that we collaborate to provide best practices and a framework to ensure students can continue learning away from brick and mortar schools,” said Candice Dodson, executive director of SETDA. “Supported by SETDA’s partners and underwriters, we hope to spark innovation around eLearning related to the COVID19 virus, inevitable inclement weather and other disruptive events.”

“The resources that SETDA has assembled so rapidly through its Coalition for eLearning provide a wide array of insights to help guide state distance learning policy. The Coalition also reflects the power of SETDA’s members and leadership to put much-needed resources into the hands of educators now to help ensure that every student can continue to learn — in school or at home,” Doug Casey, Executive Director, Connecticut State Commission for Educational Technology.

To ensure students can continue learning away from brick and mortar schools, it is essential that educators collaborate to provide best practices and a framework for instruction. This coalition provides the opportunity to spark innovation around eLearning related to the COVID-19 virus, inevitable inclement weather and other disruptive events. Resources for school districts include:

  • Background and Research
  • Communication tools for state, district and school stakeholders
  • Content and Sample Lessons
  • Partner Solutions
  • Examples of state and district policies for eLearning days
  • District pilot examples

Over the next two years, SETDA will collaborate with partners to continue building the online tool. Learn more about the publicly available resources at SETDA.org.

Join the launch Webinar, Strategies for eLearning Days in the Wake of COVID-19 Tuesday, March 17, 2020 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm EDT by edWeb to learn more.

SETDA is also hosting a free, edWeb online community of practice, Essential Elements for eLearning to provide policy makers, school administrators and educators a central location to share and learn from one another about  policies and practices related to online learning, digital content, and eLearning days.
