State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) Announces 2014-2015 Board Members and Officers

July 2, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) – The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) today announced its Board of Directors and Officers for the 2014-15 year:

• Peter Drescher, Vermont Agency of Education (Chair)
• Carla Wade, Oregon Department of Education (Chair-Elect)
• David Walddon (emeritus), Office of the Chief Information Officer, Washington (Treasurer)
• Julia Fallon, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Washington (Secretary)
• Laurence Cocco, New Jersey Department of Education
• Candice Dodson, Indiana Department of Education
• Rick Gaisford, Utah State Office of Education
• Lan Neugent, Virginia Department of Education

Peter Drescher of the Vermont Agency of Education will move from his role of Secretary of the board to serve as SETDA Chair. Building on past experience as a SETDA board member, Carla Wade will serve as Chair-Elect, while Julia Fallon will move from an at-large position on the board to Secretary. With experience at both the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and in the private sector, Emeritus board member David Walddon will become Treasurer.

Laurence Cocco was re-elected to a second term as an at-large member and Rick Gaisford will continue in his term as an at-large member. They will be joined by newly elected Candice Dodson of Indiana, and Lan Neugent of Virginia who was appointed to fulfill an unexpired term. Both Dodson and Neugent have served in various capacities in SETDA leadership, with Dodson as co-chair of a standing committee and Neugent as a past Chair of the board.

“A hallmark of SETDA’s strength is its commitment to state leadership in education,” stated Douglas Levin, SETDA Executive Director. “The SETDA Board of Directors is excited to work with state and national leaders to advance school improvement and reform efforts in the states through the implementation of smart technology policy and practice.”

The SETDA board was elected at its annual Emerging Technologies Forum & Annual Business Meeting June 26-29 in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to its meeting, SETDA hosted the ConnectEd Private Sector Showcase where representatives from eight of the ten companies that have pledged $2 Billion in commitments to deliver cutting-edge technologies to the classroom spoke of their companies’ plans for implementing their commitments. SETDA will hold a ConnectEd Private Sector Webinar in early September with the ConnectEd companies to provide an update on their progress. Further information on the webinar will be forthcoming.
