SETDA: Coherent Federal Systems Are Essential to Modern Education
November 18, 2025 (Washington, D.C) – Students, educators, and states need stability, not a fragmented federal education system. Shifting core U.S. Department of Education offices to multiple agencies through administrative agreements—outside of Congressional debate—splinters the nation’s education mission and creates confusion for states already managing unprecedented demands. This move risks inconsistent guidance, delays in services, and weakened civil rights protections.
“Modern education depends on coherent systems for digital access and opportunity, data privacy, cybersecurity, and equity,” said Fallon. “Fragmenting the federal role makes this work harder, not easier. These changes should be paused until states, Tribes, and educators are genuinely consulted.”
SETDA urges the Administration to pause implementation of these interagency agreements and calls on Congress to protect the structures that keep students supported and schools strong.
