Broadband Leadership: Equitable Access for All Learners

Facilitators: Christine Fox, Deputy Executive Director, SETDA and Mindy Fiscus, Illinois

This session will provide the opportunity for leaders to discuss issues related to broadband access for learners both in and outside of school. The session will launch the building of new SETDA resources related to state broadband leadership, including an online map and the Broadband Imperative III report. Participants will be asked to continue to contribute to these resources over the next 6 months via online discussions and documents.


Game Changers: Building Leadership Capacity for Personalized and Digital Learning

Facilitator: Dr. Mary Ann Wolf, Director of the Professional Learning and Leading Collaborative, The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation

This interactive session will focus on key Game Changers for building capacity for personalized and digital learning. During this session we will examine strategies that have been proven to help leaders make their vision become reality and explore the critical components school leaders need as they make the transition to personalized and digital learning. Participants will have an opportunity to consider how as state leaders they can build capacity in districts and schools and will use design thinking to address their own problem of practice. We will share models that states have used to build capacity in district and school leaders.


Professional Learning for Effective Instructional Practice: Leveraging Title IIA+

Facilitators: Tracy Weeks, Executive Director, SETDA and Sandy O’Neil, New Jersey Department of Education

This working group will start on Monday afternoon (3pm-5pm) and then continue on Tuesday. Join this opportunity to explore evidence-based practices to support digital and personalized learning. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to new resources highlighting evidence based, quality professional learning opportunities. Leaders and highlight exemplars of SEA and LEA professional learning implementation.


Quality Digital Instructional Materials for Learning

Facilitators: Candice Dodson, Director, Office of eLearning, Indiana Department of Education and Melissa Greene, SETDA

  • Shannon Glynn Thomas, Program Director, College and Career Readiness Standards, CCSSO

During this session, leaders (including multiple SIMRA and AEM leaders) will have the opportunity to learn from one another regarding the selection and implementation of quality digital instructional materials. In addition, participants will “roll-up their sleeves” to provide guidance, content and examples for new instructional materials resources including the 2019 Navigating the Digital Shift report, updates to the Guide to Quality Instructional Materials and new tool which will aggregate state vetted/approved instructional materials for secondary mathematics and language arts.
