Professional Development Strategies that Support Systemic Change in Teaching and Learning

Online professional development, curriculum cadres, and technology coaches are all successful methods of providing professional development to educators to improve teaching with the overall goal of increasing student learning and achievement.

Online Professional Development allows teachers and other educators the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills by simply using their computers and accessing a particular course or content at any time, and from any place.  Online professional development enables teachers to learn based upon their own schedule, accommodates a variety of learning styles, and provides opportunities for interaction with teachers in schools across the country.

Curriculum Cadres - a core group of highly qualified personnel (teachers, curriculum developers, curriculum coordinators) who have the expertise needed to assume responsibility for the design, implementation and training for particular curricula.

Technology Coaches help teachers integrate technology in the classroom, train teachers to use technology in an effective manner, and assist with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology.  Also known as technology integration specialists, technology support specialists, instructional technology coordinators, curriculum technology partners, coaches, and expert trainers.
