Topic Areas of Interest
When soliciting feedback on the development of this toolkit the responding states ranked the following areas of interest for focus in terms of media literacy and systemic reform. The Supporting Resources section addresses these areas with reference materials within each category:
- Safety: Protecting kids from predators and other online dangers
- Ethics: Preventing cyberbullying, plagiarism, and hacking
- Security: Protecting personal information
- Evaluate: Determining reliability, validity, and appropriateness of content
- Access: Efficiently finding, sorting, and processing information
- Copyright: Complying with Copyright Law for students and educators
- Create: Creating content through web pages, blogs, profiles, etc.
- Analyze: Determining purpose; recognizing persuasive techniques and advertising; and recognizing effects of words, colors, movement, sound on understanding.
