Geoff Fletcher served as a panelist on a webinar for the National School Boards Association. The panel was entitled, "Common Core: New Opportunities for Deeper Learning," and joining Geoff on the panel was Karen Fasimpaur of K12 Handhelds and K12opened, Barbara Treacy of EDC, and Andrew Chlup of Vail, AZ school district. The panel covered a number of issues related to the Common Core, including Open Educational Resources and other approaches to digital content, changes in instructional strategies to implement the Common Core, and online assessment. Doug Levin was a panelist on the January 17 CoSN Member Webinar "Measuring Tech Readiness for 2014 Tests." When formative and summative assessments go digital, school districts have to be ready to handle the capacity and security required. IT readiness for these various assessments is a great way to set the agenda and lead the conversation in your district to make network development a top priority for the future of teaching and learning.

Jennifer Fritschi, is co-authoring two reports on mobile learning in North America that will be published by UNESCO worldwide in March. She presented her findings with CoSN while in Paris, France last month at UNESCO's headquarters for UNESCO's Mobile Learning Week (http://www.unesco.org/new/en/unesco /themes/icts/m4ed/mlw) where experts from four other regions of the world shared their findings and exchanged ideas.

Held in Calgary and supported by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, this global summit was the culmination of a series of regional GETS events that took place in late 2009 and early 2010 and was attended by representatives from more than 100 countries.

Doug Levin participated in the panel discussion, Citizenship in a Connected Culture: Research and Best Practices. Digital media is profoundly changing the nature of childhood, and today’s connected culture brings with it ethical challenges that are unique to this generation of young people. These challenges manifest in activities that are familiar to any educator today, such as cyberbullying, sexting, digital cheating, andmore. This panel examined the research on these challenges and offer insight on developing effective practices that encourage responsible media use by young people and critical thinking about ethical challenges by all school stakeholders.

It is possible to increase student achievement while closing the achievement gap with technology driven reform models. Come learn how students in Utah and Missouri participating in the enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies (eMINTS) program have consistently out-performed non-eMINTS students on standardized tests. eMINTS students in subgroups reduced the gap in test scores by up to half.
