December 11-12, 2012
On December 11-12, in Denver, SETDA hosted a technical working group meeting for the GIM-CCSS project. Representative from several state departments of education were in attendance, including from California, Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.

NASBE Briefing
December 4, 2012
On December 4, Doug Levin presented at the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) briefing on Capitol Hill releasing the NASBE Study Group Report on the Role of Technology in Schools and Communities. Joint OER Meeting
November 29, 2012
On November 29, SETDA co-hosted a meeting with iNACOL, CCSSO, and EducationCounsel on open educational resources (OER) for DC-based education associations. In attendance were representatives from American Association of School Administrators, CoSN, the Learning First Alliance, ISTE, National Association of Elementary School Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of State Boards of Education, National School Boards Association, and the PTA.

November 15, 2012
Geoff Fletcher took part in Achieve's OER Institute in Chicago, November 15 and 16th by kicking off the Institute with a talk on the importance of open and online resources in the Age of the Waterbed and working with states in creating plans to encourage OER in schools.

SETDA's Jennifer Fritschi and Geoff Fletcher attended EdNET, the annual educational networking conference, in Baltimore September 30-October 2. Geoff and Jennifer  met with members ofm the corporate sector as well as attending numerous sessions. Doug Levin presented to state legislators attending the Council of State Governments-West annual meeting in Edmonton, Canada. He addressed members of their education committee on state and national educational technology trends and priorities. Doug Levin participated in a meeting hosted by the Hamilton Project of the Brookings Institution to provide feedback on a forthcoming paper on "Harnessing Technology to Improve K-12 Education." Expect to see the public release of this paper and others related to educational technology by Brookings on or about September 27.

Virginia Open Education Curriculum Board

Doug Levin traveled to Richmond to participate in a meeting of the Virginia Open Education Curriculum Board to which he was appointed by Governor McDonnell. The Board had the opportunity to hear an update from SETDA member Tammy McGraw on the groundbreaking work that Virginia has done in building an online, interactive Economics and Personal Finance Course.

On March 29, Doug Levin represented SETDA at the FCC's Digital Textbook Initiative event. During the event, Chairman Julius Genachowski met with leaders across the digital education space, including CEOs from broadband companies, publishers and digital device manufacturers, for a working group meeting on transitioning the U.S. K-12 schools to digital textbooks. New Leaf in Learning Conference 
March 23, 2012
Geoff Fletcher also spoke to the New Leaf in Learning Conference on March 23 in Chicago. The title of this presentation was "The Shift From Print to Digital."   The presentation focused on how content and open educational resources as well as assessments are shifting from print to digital, but this cannot be accomplished with an influx of technology devices and broadband and high quality professional development.
