Leadership Resource Bank

After identifying these challenges technology leaders face every day and some tactics to assist them in their roles, the Work group realized that a central and easily accessible forum for listing these types of strategies, as well as resources to help accomplish them, would be extremely beneficial in enabling technology leaders to more effectively carry out all aspects of their job. Beyond simply dealing with the specific challenges this Work group dealt with, such an arena would include resources and strategies for the many other issues state technology leaders face-both professionally and personally. These resources range from strategies, to examples of best practices, to databases of source materials to be used in presentations. They specifically include:

  • Day to Day Strategies: Strategies and resources for making each day a success
  • Crisis Management: Suggestions for surviving life's challenges
  • Communication Tools: Tools for sharing information and resources with others
  • Budget Strategies: Strategies for planning and managing your budget
  • Testimonials and Success Stories: Stories, quotes, and videos promoting educational technology
  • Stress Management Techniques: Techniques for maintaining control over stress
  • Organizational Clarity: Organizational resources to support educational technology
  • Reports and RFPs: Reports and other documents shared as examples for others
  • Forms or Cover Pages: Sample forms from states to help organize your work
  • Slide Shows: Slide shows used at state and national events
  • Research and Evaluation Studies: Research studies to support educational technology
  • Best Practices: States' successes shared with other states
This group feels that there needs to be a common arena where such resources could be collected and shared among peers from different states. Having access to these best practices, "tried and tested" materials, and documents would help save time, maximize efficiency and give broader insight into the way State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) members function in their jobs. This kind of sharing allows for personal growth in ways that would be difficult to achieve otherwise. The resources, templates and strategies would be shared with the intention that state leaders could adapt them to fit their individual needs. Such a site would be dynamic, as state leaders could continually update resources and share strategies as they find new tactics that work.

This subgroup prepared a survey and distributed it to SETDA members to begin the process of compiling the information to make up such a resource bank. They also worked on developing the design and framework for a potential Website that would serve as an easily accessible forum for state leaders to share such resources among colleagues from other states.
