Next Steps

  1. Resource Guide: Based upon the initial recommendation from the NLI 2002 Data Work Group, continue to develop the Common Data Elements (CDE) Resource Guide. This Resource Guide will include the following components:
    • State-Level Profile Survey Instrument.
    • District-Level Survey Instrument.
    • Building-Level Survey Instrument.
    • Methodology for Data Collection on State-, District-, and Building-Level Instruments.
    • Methodology for Data Analysis using the State-, District-, and Building-Level Instruments.
    • Methodologies for Field Testing and Validation of Surveys.
    • Dissemination Process to ensure that all states have access to the Resource Guide.
  2. Context: Encourage collaboration with various data collection efforts, including federal and state level activities. Consistency and collaboration in the many efforts will assist states in demonstrating the impacts of technology as a tool for learning across all educational program areas.
  3. Implementation Strategies: Collect data that "makes the case" for education technology as an effective tool for learning, going beyond compliance requirements.
  4. Data Use: Identify the highest priority challenges and systematically address them with research-based interventions.
  5. States Helping States: Solicit state input to identify best practices within states for using data to improve student achievement. Disseminate challenges, resources, obstacles, and successes throughout the educational community in order to increase collaboration among states.
