Strengthen the Quality of Education Leaders and Professional Educators
The NETP should encourage the development and use of technologies that increase the capacity of state and local education officials to (1) bolster and expand educational services for all students (K-20), (2) improve communication linkages among colleagues in education and research communities, and (3) better inform students, parents, and the public with reference to effective and worthwhile educational programs and services.
Education leaders are key in the development of a broad vision for technology in education. They need ready access to research results and innovation both nationally and internationally to help develop and implement the vision. Other critical areas for consideration include:
- Recognition of the need for quality educators;
- Helping states/districts prepare and support instructional technology fellows;
- Helping educators learn how to make data-driven decisions using technology;
- Ensuring the expanding role(s) of teacher education and invigorating expectations of/for teacher education faculty, especially in the transformation to a new culture of learning;
- Delivering high-quality professional development (long-term, sustained, research-based) through a variety of methods (face-to-face, virtual, online);
- Assurance of high-quality, job-embedded professional development as an expectation of the job.
